Kyle Ledgewood’s brainiac plans are a weird standard in Giselle Little’s life, but never has he come up with something quite this out-there. “No one’s as smart as I am,” he says. “Think about it.”
Yeah, sure. She thinks about it. She thinks his ego has taken over his ability to reason.
“I wasn’t just created in a lab. I was designed there! My mom owns the place. She controls everything. You know she does. We have to go to Boise. It’s like a spy mission! Please? You have to come with me!”
Yeah. Not so much.
When he doesn’t convince her with pleading, Kyle pries into Giselle’s own questionable beginnings. He presents a gift, meant to win her over.
“What’s that?” she asks.
“Your mom in a box,” he answers. He lifts the lid to reveal Donor Mom’s journals.
How stupid can one smart boy be? “I don’t want this! Why would you do this?”
And yet, against her better judgement, she reads.
That night she finds out Donor Mom committed suicide—and a road trip with the most annoying guy on the planet might be the only way to find out why.
Oh, what the hell. It’s only a week, right?
